I am fortunate enough to have just returned from an amazing 2-week vacation in Thailand. First of all, anyone who knows me knows that the idea of leaving for that length of time raises my blood pressure. Prior to meeting my loving wife it wouldn’t even be an idea that I would consider. I have learned that as much as I love what I do there is more to life than work. With all that being said, work was never completely out of my mind. Here are a few of the things that I was thinking about.
Thailand is a country that is growing at an amazing rate. There was new construction everywhere, now understand this is a county that is still recovering from a devastating tsunami. It is a very proud country; proud of their food, proud of their culture, proud of their natural beauty and yes proud of its building. We visited quite a few of the different temples that were over 200 years old as well as the “Giant Buddha” in Phuket, which is currently under construction and it is truly amazing to see. We also toured a truly amazing city called Chiang Mai, quite possibly our favorite, it was fascinating to hear that there is over 18 subdivisions of new homes under construction in this city of approximately 200,00 people. There is no doubt that the “codes” and construction sciences that we use are significantly different and dare I say a little more advanced. That being said there was some amazing craftsmanship. Some of the woodcarvings were beautiful to say the least.
As I laid around the pool relaxing while my wife got a poolside massage (I know, I know, insert how tough life is right here) I was struck by inspiration. What if I could lie out “Our Process” of taking your home from just an “idea” all the way through your house warming party? So I grabbed my phone and started taking notes. It was a jumbled brain dump but I was and am excited at the idea. Now it will take me a few more days to put it to paper in an organized manner so please be a little patient. As much as it may or may not be a great idea to put this out for all of my competitors to see it is more about making our process as transparent as possible. The goal is to take something that can be daunting and overwhelming if you don’t know what’s involved and layout the process in a simple and systematic way the eases those fears and raises the excitement level. So keep your eyes out for “Anlon’s Process, ideation to housewarming party” coming soon.
As always I like to keep you posted on our latest projects, even though I was on vacation over 7,500 miles away, my amazing team was busy making good things happen. Our engineering teams continued moving forward on our 20-home project coming soon in Sellwood and our 23-lot development project in Aloha. Our real estate team was able to put together an offer from an amazing young couple on a property that we own in Hillsboro. We have 4 homes we are getting ready to start and Oregon City and the permits on those are hopefully going to be ready to pick up in the next 10 days. One of the best things that have happened in the last 6 months over hear has been a conglomeration with Jason Gaines of Jason Gaines Construction. He has come onboard managing the final and often times most important 10% of our homes. He has been instrumental in keeping houses on schedule and on budget while I was on vacation. In addition to being a great guy Jason has years of construction knowledge, a calm cool demeanor and a great eye for detail. I couldn’t be more appreciative of all his help.
If you know of anyone who would like to meet and discuss having a home built or has property that they are interested in selling please send him or her my way Michael Harn, 503 522 4357. Looking forward to talking to you soon.
